Easter Thursday

 

On Holy Thursday it snowed, Easter Thursday heat record heat at 83 degrees. These entrance trees were in full bloom, during a light rain before sunset.

Beneath is a fresh hole.

Woodland Gatehouse

 

Recently, Woodland Cemetery has finished work on the rebuilt entrance. Cleveland's Erie Street, and Monroe Street have similar entrances. Because of the coronavirus estrangement, no grand public reveal has been done. Perhaps next year for Memorial Day? [foto 26 Nov. 2020]

There had also been a chapel, and a fountain on the property.

For years, original stones were in a mound in the interior of the cemetery. Some pieces were stolen by landscapers.

Kol Israel Holocaust Monument

Kol Israel began in 1959 with Cleveland survivors from the Holocaust/Shoah. 1961 they raised this monument in Zion Memorial Park Cemetery, Bedford Heights. It was a work of mercy. It is a place to remember and mourn the so many who did not have a respectful burial. On the Sunday between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur there is a memorial service, in which Kaddish is said.

Seventeen foot obelisk of French Creek granite is topped with Stars of David, on either side are  fourteen foot panels.
