Some of the older cemeteries have ancient trees. Margeaux Apple is the plant recorder for Holden Forests & Gardens. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Moses Cleaveland coming to the Cuyahoga, a committee set out to find 150 (listed 153) trees in the county that were alive in 1796. She did some exploring [click]. Apple found 18 of the original 43 trees still living in Cleveland.
Most of the buried dead here were German Lutherans. Borders changed, and ancient surnames remained. Some had spelling changes.
Cleveland has a Slovak Lutheran congregation. This stone has more than Slovak inscription: "Dobru noc moja Mati, dobre spi (Good night my Mother, good sleep)".
